CHAIRMAN AND DUTIES

The chairman will be the District Governor of the District in which the Regional Convention

is held and his duties are:

1.     Monitor procedures for establishing new awards in the Region;

2.    Review criteria for new awards;

3.    Accept / reject new awards in the Region;

4.    Review awards periodically and recommend maintenance and / or repair required;

5.    Review the criteria of the present awards every 5 years.

PROCEDURES FOR DONATING AWARDS TO THE REGION

a.    Information and details of proposed Award to be presented to the District Governor

of the District that the donor is a member;

b.    Proposed Award Request channeled to the Chairman of the Awards Committee;

c.    Awards Committee Chairman distributes request to Awards Committee Members;

    4.    The awards committee shall have 60 days to reach its decision on any request and

will submit its recommendations at the first annual business meeting following the

expiration of that period.

 


AWARD PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

1    All awards are to be presented at one Awards Ceremony. However, the George

Oxiey Award may be presented at the Presidents' Dinner at the discretion of the

convention committee.

2    Prior to the presentation of the Leah Bell, Purdy Cougle, Henry Grimes Awards

being presented, all previous winners, in attendance, of these awards are to be

announced.

3    Selectors of Awards, other than the Leah, Purdy Cougle, and henry Grimes Awards,

must prepare a report on his / her reasons for selecting a particular winner.

4.    All awards are to be prominently displayed prior to presentation.

INSTRUCTIONS ON REPORTING

1     Except for the Purdy Cougle Memorial Award and the Henry D. Grimes Memorial

Award, all reports and information upon which awards are to be based, is to be

submitted to the appropriate" Selectors" of the Awards prior to April 30.

2    The decision made by the Selectors(s) of the Award shall be submitted to the

Regional Secretary no later then one week prior to the convention.

3.    At the discretion of the Selectors) of an Award, if none of the nominations show

sufficient merit then the award may be withheld.

ALEXANDER SCHOLARSHIP FUND AWARD

Donated by the Whitney Pier Club to replace the now retired Kingfisher Trophy which was

donated by the former Halifax Club. It is presented to the club with the most outstanding

program in A.S.F..

PURPOSE

To encourage and promote the recruitment of students for the YMCA profession and to

assist Y professional staff in securing further training / education related to their profession.

SELECTION

By the Regional Service Director of ASF based on the criteria listed below.

Dollar amounts and ASF reports must be in by April 30. Results are to be documented

 


and printed in the annual Convention Report.

CRITERIA

Awarding of points is as follows:

1. For each $100.00 of contribution                                    10 points

2. For each contribution of $5.00 per member                        10 points

3. Money raised through documented special Y's Men project.          20 points

4. Recruited the person who received an ASF scholarship the previous spring.

50 points

5. Promoted ASF program to schools and other organizations.

20 points

PRESENTER

This award is presented by the RSD responsible for the Alexander Scholarship Fund.

DUNBAR AWARD

This is a bulletin award and replace the now retired Old Timers Award donated by the former

Halifax Club.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this award is to increase inter-club communication. In some cases the club

bulletin is the source of determining what goes on in the clubs.

CRITERIA

Awarding of points, on content, is as follows:

(Issues of required content is judged on a monthly bases.)

1. Club news; Past, Present, Future                   Maximum 30

2. Program. International, and Area news              Maximum 30

3. District and Regional News                         Maximum 20

 


4. Humour                                    Maximum 10

5. Religious content                                  Maximum 10

6. Percentage of bulletins received                      Maximum 10

(number and date each bulletin)

The total score from each District Governor is divided by 3 and the award is presented to the

club for the bulletin obtaining the highest number of points.

PRESENTER

This award is presented by the Regional Director.

FAYE ROGERS AWARD

This award was formerly known as the Woodstock Trophy and was donated by the Club. In

1971 it was renamed the Faye Rogers Award in honor of Faye, a member of the Woodstock

Club.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this award is to encourage the saving of canceled stamps rather than donating

cash to the fund.

CRITERIA

It is presented to the dub that has generated the greatest amount of cash from the sale of

stamps for the Brotherhood Fund during the year.

PRESENTER

This award is presented by the RSD for Brotherhood.

GEORGE OXLEY MEMORIAL AWARD

(Revised October 19,2002 by the Maritimes Region Awards Committee)

Donated by Y's Menette Connie Oxtey in memory of her husband George Oxtey, a member

of the Sydney Y's Men's Club. First presented in 1973.

 


SELECTION

The winner is to be selected by the Regional Director and the Regional Secretary.

CRITERIA

It is presented to the President of the Club which has shown the most substantial improvement

over the previous year.

This award is to be judged solely on the unsolicited information provided by the respective

clubs to the Regional Director and the Regional Secretary prior to April 30.

Points in all cases to be awarded to the top 5 dubs in the region with 5 points going to the top

club, 4 to the second best, etc. for each heading as listed below.

The relevant information that has to be sent to the Regional Director and Regional Secretary

is under the following headings:

1. Membership: Percentage increase over the previous year

2. Attendance: Best relative to Previous year

3. Revenue from projects: Percentage increase over the previous year

4. Contribution to Y's Men's International: Increase over the previous year

5. Finandal Contribution to Local Service Projects: Percentage increase over previous year

6. Volunteer Manhours Contributed to Local Community Service: Percentage increase over

previous year.

HARRY HOLMAN AWARD

This award was donated by the Summerside Y's Men's Club to honor the member, Harry

Holman, for his outstanding work in handling canceled stamps for the Brotherhood Fund. The

award is presented annually at the Regional Convention.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this award is to encourage the saving of canceled stamps and the raising of

dollars to help finance Brotherhood Delegate Visitation

SELECTION

The selection must be made by the Regional Service Director by April 30. The results are to

be documented and printed in the Annual Convention Report.

CRITERIA

It is presented to the club that has generated the greatest amount of cash from the sale of

stamps and cash contributed to the Brotherhood Fund, divided by the number of the members

 


as of April 1, of that year.

PRESENTER

This award is presented by the RSD responsible for the Brotherhood Fund.

HENRY D. GRIMES MEMORIAL AWARD

PURPOSE

To honor the long time contribution to Y's domofthe late Henry D. Grimes, Past International

Secretary. This award was first awarded in 1964.

To recognize self-sacrifice and excellence in Maritimes Y's Men, particularly those Y's Men

who have demonstrated over the years their devotion to our movement yet have not been

rewarded for their efforts.

ELIGIBILITY

Awarded to a Y's Man or a Y's Couple (Y's Man and Y's Menette) who over the years has or

have shown true dedication and unselfish devotion to the Y's Men's movement within the

Maritimes Region. The words" over the years" distinguishes the Henry Grimes from the

Purdy Cougle Award which is for an" outstanding Y's Man ... during the past year".

Selection

By a committee composed of three members:

1. President of the Fredericton Capitals Y's Men's Club, as Chairman,

2. The current Regional Director,

3. Most recent active winner.

AWARD TO BE PRESENTED

At the Maritimes Regional Convention by the President of the Fredericton Capitals Y's Men's

Club. The citation is to be made available, in print, to all those attending the convention. All

nominees are to be named.
